Event Strategy

Destination Manawatu works closely with the event organisers of 28 key annual events in Palmerston North City and Manawatu.  Manawatu has an excellent framework for large events to be nurtured and established as an integral part of our annual scene.  Destination Manawatu's long term strategy is to secure the following for the Region:

• Six major annual events of national significance
• One annual or bi-annual event of international significance

We already have a number of existing events that have the potential to achieve this status.  We will work with them, but also assess new options.

Events add richness and colour to our daily lives.  Large events can also generate significant economic benefit to the Region.

In 2011 Destination Manawatu played a direct roll in developing two new events for the Manawatu Region - Square Affair Retro Festival and The Country Road Manawatu Cycle Classic.
