Iron Gates Experience

The Iron Gates Experience is unique to the Manawatu Region. It is secluded, quiet and tranquil while still being majestic and powerful. Enjoy New Zealand backcountry at its most untouched. You won’t see traffic here, or busy shops and hurried people. What you will get is the opportunity to enjoy memorable people, have inspiring adventures, and make the most of the accessible wilderness. The Iron Gates Experience name comes from the Iron Gates Gorge, which has sheer cliffs and a powerful river pushing through the narrow gorge that guards the entrance to the nearby valley and farmland. This gorge was named by the early settlers in this area. This experience has accommodation, tramping and walks, scenic activities, horse trekking and much more. It is also home to the Blue Duck Project, a community effort aimed at increasing the Blue Duck populations in the Oroua catchment.
