Keep an eye out for the Branch Road Down-Hill Walk. Held normally in November. The walk follows an ancient Maori track which was used by William Colenso the missionary explorer, who, with two Maori guides used the route to cross from Hawke's Bay to Lake Taupo. It was later used as a country road, but was abandoned in the 1960s because of continual slips.

Walkers start at County Fayre, where a shuttle bus service takes you to the top of Ridge Road for the two-hour walk back to County Fayre, where a light lunch is provided.

The walk is about 6km. People of all ages, from babies in backpacks to 90 year olds, have completed the walk in the past.

A great walk for the whole family!
