The Annual Apiti Show

The annual Apiti Show was a recent big event for the northern Manawatu. Saturday the 23rd February turned out to be “one out of the box” for this busy, well attended day. Ross (Jock) Bielski was the compere, and I must say, did a sterling job. There were volunteers a plenty from those taking money at the gate to those taking entries. It was a time for shearers to compete, and not just those from Apiti, like Russell Knight, but also big time shearers such as David Fagin, Murray Henderson, Dave Buick, Roland Smith, Dion King, Cam Ferguson and John Kirkpatrick. They came from far and wide with a very enthusiastic audience to cheer them on.  The wool handlers also had their time to display their skills, including Apiti’s very own talented Ronnie Goss, who has represented New Zealand.

Local Hospitality on The Manawatu Cycleway

The launch of the Manawatu Cycleway on The Country Road was an absolute pleasure to be part of.   Over 50 cyclists joined us from throughout the lower North Island in a two-day ride of the new 126km route of the New Zealand Cycleway.

The Pie Melon Challenge!

While visiting the Feilding Farmers' Market last Friday I popped in to see the Eclectic Country stall, where I know I can always find something completely unheard of and utterly delicious! The stall holder, Marie Mullins, has an amazing talent for making every kind of sauce and condiment under the sun - and is always coming up with new and tantalising creations (as well as creating all the classics that we know and love).
