This is a slightly challenging but hugely rewarding tramp onto the tops of the Ruahine Ranges.
The start of this track enters the bush beside the car park and begins at a steady grade. The Deadmans Track junction, on the right, is a few meters in from the car park. A short, steepish 30-40 minute detour track around an active slip and is the only section of track that is not uniformly graded. The detour comes out just before a picturesque arched wooden bridge crossing a deep ravine. A slightly steeper grade from here, the track head up through a smaller shrub species past a waterfall to reach Rangiwahia Hut. The hut is a serviced 13 bunk hut, which includes water, heating and cooking facilities. The walk to the hut takes approximately 3-4 hours, depending on your fitness level.
If you are planning to stay in this hut, you will need to pre-purchase hut tickets from a DoC office or the local i-SITE.
Fill in your address into the address field below the map and the shortest route will be calculated.
