Boogaloo is a genre of Latin music and dance which was popular in the 1960s. Originating in New York, the style was a fusion of American Rhythm & Blues and Soul, and Caribbean Mambo and Son Montuno. Songs like "Bang, Bang", "El Watusi", "I Like It Like That" and "Watermelon Man" made artists such Joe Cuba, Ray Barretto, Pete Rodriguez and Mongo Santamaria famous.
Channelling this unique 1960s musical flavour, perhaps for the first time in Levin this century, is a Kāpiti-Horowhenua-Manawatū supergroup consisting of:
Miles Crayford - Hammond Organ (yes, you read that right)
James Tait-Jamieson - Sax/Vox
Robert Kingi - Guitar
Ryan Watson - Drums
Entry is free but please bring cash or a card to tip (koha) the band.
