Michael Houstoun returns to the Globe Theatre to perform a beautiful programme of piano masterpieces by Franz Schubert and George Gershwin.
As well as the Four Impromptus, Op.90 by Schubert, Houstoun will present his final sonata, the Sonata in B flat, D.960. Houstoun describes this sonata as “a spiritual document without parallel showing us the depths of our own hearts”.
The concert also includes four of the Virtuoso Studies on Gershwin by the brilliant American pianist Earl Wild. Wild has arranged some of George Gershwin’s most famous and loved songs for solo piano and Houstoun will play Lady Be Good, The Man I Love, I Got Rhythm and Embraceable You.
As Houstoun says “the tunes are great and Wild does not bury them or turn them upside down – he honours them and shows off the piano at the same time. Truly a pleasure to play”.
