“In the midst of life we are in death.”
The Tudor Consort presents a rare opportunity to experience two of the most epic and expressive works of the English choral repertoire: John Sheppard’s Media vita in morte sumus and Thomas Tallis’ Lamentations of Jeremiah.
The symphonic size and scale of Sheppard’s work is unique - performances clock in around 25 minutes - and it has been described in the New York Times as a ‘cult favourite’ of early music. Where Media vita features stratospherically high singing, the similarly well-loved Lamentations have a darker sonority befitting the anguished text.
We are delighted to be performing a solo concert in Palmerston North for the first time since 2012. Don’t miss out on what promises to be an exquisite afternoon of Tudor music.
