Discover live music in the heart of Whanganui Regional Museum with the Saturday Sounds session.
Held in the Museum’s Atrium, this new Saturday afternoon series celebrates talented local and visiting musicians across a diverse range of styles, creating a relaxed live music experience in the unique surroundings of the Museum.
On 12 September, we welcome Ngā Pakeke o Rātana a respected kapa haka group proudly representing the Rātana community and its rich cultural heritage. Fresh from their inspiring performance at Taikura 2026 Kapa Haka at Te Papa, the group continues to captivate audiences with powerful waiata, skilled haka, graceful poi and heartfelt storytelling. Their performances celebrate te ao Māori, uphold the traditions and values of the Rātana movement, and showcase the strength, unity and pride of their people. With passion, discipline and mana, Ngā Pakeke o Rātana delivers an authentic and memorable cultural experience that resonates with audiences of all backgrounds.
Ngā Pakeke o Ratana was established in 2010 by Ratana kuia kaumatua and have participated in all regional kapa haka competitions since, to support their matua group Te Reanga Morehu o Ratana and all their Te Kahui Maunga teams.
Whether you’re discovering a new artist, enjoying live music with friends, or simply looking for a relaxing Saturday afternoon, Saturday Sounds is the perfect way to spend a Saturday afternoon.
