Your Guide to the Manawatū Garden Festival 2025

The Manawatū Garden Festival is almost in full-bloom with only a couple of weeks before our festival dates: November 12 – 16. If you haven’t marked your calendars already, make sure to do so now so you don’t miss this five-day celebration of our whenua (land), community and everything floral, green and gorgeous!

Whether you're a seasoned gardener hunting for inspiration, or simply someone who loves wandering through beautiful green spaces, this festival promises a joyful jaunt through some of the most spectacular private and public gardens in Manawatū. Plus, with four new gardens joining the lineup this year, as well as garden tours and hands-on workshops on the agenda, there's plenty of fresh territory to explore in 2025.

The Manawatū Garden Festival is your chance to connect with passionate gardeners, discover hidden gems tucked away in the countryside, and find a wheelbarrow load of inspiration to take back to your own garden. Ready to dig in? Let this guide help you make the most of this glorious week ahead!

Start here:

Before you grab your sun hat and head out, make ManawatuNZ.co.nz/GardenFest your first stop. This is your festival headquarters, complete with an interactive map showing all 20 gardens, important event information, and links to the ticketing platform where you can browse the offerings available each day of the festival, and purchase your tickets.

Springvale Gardens, Manawatū

Before you start committing though, make sure the day you intend to come matches all the gardens and experiences you want to enjoy!  

Some gardens are hosting special events, tours, and workshops. If you’re super keen on a particular experience, double-check which day it’s scheduled for and plan accordingly. 

Here’s a list of key dates to keep in mind: 

    • Cross Hills Garden Fair: November 15 (tickets purchased at the gate) 
    • Greenhaugh Garden & Nursery: Closed November 14-16 for a private function 
    • Caccia Birch: Closed November 14-15 for a private function

The Flower Enthusiast

You love being in any garden, but the best gardens are those you can take inspiration from and embody in your own garden! The Shade-Seeker

Garden explorations are best when incorporated with plenty of garden benches, mature trees for dappled shade and babbling water for maximum zen. Don't forget! (Packing list):

  • Camera: Capture gorgeous backdrops and reference photos of plants you want to try at home. 
  • Notebook: Jot down plant names, design ideas, and gardening tips. 
  • Reusable Coffee Cup: Great for eco-conscious visitors. 
  • Comfortable Walking Shoes: You’ll cover plenty of terrain – some of it will be uneven and possibly wet - after all, it is spring!  
  • Sun Protection: November sunshine can be strong - don’t forget sunscreen and a hat! 
  • Layers: Layer up for comfort and all seasons, just in case. That includes a raincoat!
  • Your Tickets! These can be printed or saved on your device.
