The Bledisloe Park walk is undulating with moderate to steep climbs, and is mostly gravel with some steps. Passing the Turitea Stream, the track emerges into open space and a playground at the Atawhai Road access point, where you can then opt to finish your walk onto Old West Road, or continue on under the bridge, into the nearby Turitea Walkway.
Bledisloe Park is a unique part of this walk, and is home to the Massey Arboretum, an oasis of calm with rare, exotic trees of all shapes and sizes, an historical landmark of sorts for the university campus, and the city. The Turitea Stream babbles through the grounds and birds chirp constantly creating a relaxing soundtrack. The stream is known for both trout and lamprey, and as it flows through the park it banks up to create a few neat swimming holes. Sit in the Gazebo and enjoy the bird song for your soundtrack.
Stick to the trail and respect the environment by making sure the only thing you leave behind are footprints. The weather can change in an instant. Make sure you plan ahead, take the right clothing and adequate food, water and supplies. Check out these gear lists for walks and hikes.
