Head along to CAMEO, a bold new exhibition by leading contemporary Wellington artist Emily Hartley-Skudder. Enjoy a striking exploration of gender, identity, architecture and everyday ritual that responds to Palmerston North's much-loved Art Deco Ladies Rest building. CAMEO is the inaugural exhibition of the $40,000 Fair Trust Art Prize – Aotearoa New Zealand's most substantial new annual art prize.

CAMEO brings together Hartley-Skudder's hyper-realistic oil paintings with immersive, retro-inspired installations. Her work playfully examines the objects and environments we often overlook, inviting visitors to consider what public spaces reveal about self-care, social expectations and the ways we navigate the world.

Hartley-Skudder has exhibited throughout Aotearoa and internationally in New York, Australia, China and Japan.

Humorous, visually captivating and quietly provocative, CAMEO is an exhibition that celebrates a heritage listed building while asking timely questions about the spaces we share and the stories they tell.

Alongside the exhibition, visitors can attend a free floor talk with Emily Hartley-Skudder and curator Sian van Dyk on Sunday 23 August at 11am.
