This six and a half hectare site was once a Tōtara forest, before being used as a clay pit for the Hoffman Kiln.
After gradually becoming a disused wasteland and languishing for many years, local community groups have rallied together to restore and give new life to this urban space. The pit is now being well on it's way to being restored as a native habitat, encouraging native birds back into the urban environment, and is a good place to spot some frogs too.
