Don’t miss Darren Watson's first live performance in the Manawatu region in almost half a decade! Tickets are strictly limited so book early to avoid disappointment!
Enjoy an amazing evening with legendary blues artist Darren Watson. Darren is a seasoned singer-songwriter and blues musician with over three decades of experience in the music industry. He’s built a reputation for his authentic blues sound, combining traditional influences with contemporary themes. His music is characterized by thoughtful lyrics, skilled guitar work, and a voice that carries both grit and soul.
With Darren for his Globe appearance will be stellar double bassist Steve Moodie (King Leo), and once blues wunderkind but still ‘wunderful’ guitarist Chris Armour (The Tempests, Oscar LaDell, King Leo).
Darren first gained recognition in the 1980s as the leader and frontman of the New Zealand band Chicago Smoke Shop. Since then, he has pursued a successful solo career, releasing a series of well-received albums. His 2020 album, Getting Sober for the End of the World, was widely praised for its sharp social commentary and musical craftsmanship, earning airplay and accolades both locally and internationally. It saw Darren nominated as a finalist for the 2021 Aotearoa Music Award for Best Folk Artist.
Watson's new album 'Darren Watson Sings John Hiatt' is due for release in November 2025.
“If Ry Cooder had a long-lost New Zealand cousin, it would be Darren Watson." Tami Neilson
"So few notes, so much music!” Nick Bollinger (Radio New Zealand)
