Go behind the scenes of Palmy Walls Alive, which brings original artworks and local stories to life through animation and large-scale outdoor projections.
The 2026 theme, Currents of Conservation, follows Ōrea, an ancient tuna kuwharuwharu from Te Awa o Manawatū, on her global journey carrying an urgent call for conservation. The animation features endangered-species artworks created by young artists from Te Aho o Te Kura Pounamu, guided by local artist Belle Chadwick and animated by UCOL Creative Industries students.
This self-directed display includes display of the original artworks, behind-the-scenes footage and free artist booklets.
Currents of Conservation Display: Palmy Conference & Functions Centre, 23-25 October, 10.00am-5.00pm.
Currents of Conservation Projection: Te Marae o Hine, Saturday 24th October, Sunset - 11pm.
