A RARE treat! Far away from home, Glenbrook Vintage Railway’s Ww 644 will be operating a pair of short family train rides between Palmerston North & Feilding! Recently restored by the team at Glenbrook, this is Ww 644’s first visit to Palmerston North in over 50 years, when it ran from its home on the West Coast of the South Island in 1970 to Glenbrook, to join the expanding collection of locomotives and rolling stock being saved from the cutter’s torch.
Listen to the lil’ wheels work, and the engine whistle away as we navigate our way through the outskirts of Palmerston North, taking a left-hand curve at the Milson Junction to head north along the main trunk line. We dip and dive through the undulating topography through Bunnythorpe before 644 leads the train on the final straight towards friendly Feilding. As 644 runs around our train at the other end, you’ll have a moment to stretch your legs before we head back to where we started!
If travelling from Palmerston North, you'll have the opportunity to look around the depot belonging to Feilding Steam Rail. The group is a railway preservation society located in Feilding in the Manawatū region of New Zealand. The society is restoring a number of locomotives and carriages once used on New Zealand's national rail network, with its star attraction being a WAB class tank locomotive, WAB 794.
