New Zealand's lower North Island has a very unique and broad spectrum of brown & rainbow trout water, mostly within a short 20 - 90min drive. From small spring creeks, to medium - large freestone front country rivers to rugged and remote head water fisheries within native forest.
The lower North Island has a comparatively high trout density and low angler density to other regions within New Zealand. The average trout size here is 3-4lbs (18-22inches) with regular opportunity at 5-7lb 22-25inch fish and with a concerted effort the chance of shots at 7-10lb wild trout.
