From Ridge Road, the first 3km of this track descends through open farmland offering extensive views of the valley below and out over to the Ruahine Ranges. The track then crosses into lush green native bush with tree ferns, black beech and regenerating shrubs, before winding through pine plantations in the lower reaches, and finally exiting into Kuku Road in the Pohangina Village. The Branch Road was closed in the 1960s, so locals have stepped in to maintain it as a beautiful walkway. The track goes through some private land and is narrow in places with dangerous drop-offs, so care needs to be taken. It is recommended that transport be arranged to drop you at the top of the track if you do not want to walk both ways.
The track is closed September and October for lambing.
Stick to the trail and respect the environment by making sure the only thing you leave behind are footprints.
