Hlomo Hlomo Gardens

https://www.gardens.org.nz/visit/hlomo-hlomo

HlomoHlomo is a large country garden, with many different areas, each with its own character.

Native plants form the background of the garden, accented by exotic plantings. First stop is usually the Reflecting Pools surrounded by foliage and flowers in various shades of red. From there visitors can wander down shady paths, passing Hostas, Giant Lobelias, ferns and Hydrangeas, across timber boardwalks to explore the native bush planted 20 years ago to form the background of the garden. A deck between the two ponds is an ideal spot to rest the legs, before reaching The Terraces, a formal area with layered hedging surrounding the hedge. The Potager features creative plantings of vegetables and flowers, and leads to the back of the property, where a Labyrinth provides interest to the huge lawn area. In the centre is a sculpture depicting HlomoHlomo – a Zulu phrase meaning I have stuck my spear in the ground and claim it as mine. Other areas of interest are the Remembrance Garden, a peaceful area to remember Loved Ones and The Cloud – our take on Aotearoa, the Land of the Long White Cloud.
