Established in 1985 and sprawling across more than 12 acres, this property is home to one of the area’s largest remaining stands of kahikatea forest - the tallest native tree in New Zealand, reaching heights of up to 60 metres. Also home to regenerating native bush and thriving wetlands, visitors can wander through the native plant arboretum walk, which boasts over a hundred named varieties, and delight in the abundant birdsong from both native and introduced bird species inhabiting the area. Dedicated to preserving New Zealand’s natural and historical heritage for future generations, the gardens and museum foster awareness, appreciation, and education.
Luttrells White Pine Gardens and Working Pioneer Museum is dedicated to doing its part to preserve the natural and historical history of New Zealand for the benefit of present and future generations through awareness appreciation and education. In the museum, step back in time and view the many articles used by early New Zealanders in their everyday live - from farm machinery to household items.
