Luttrells White Pine Gardens and Working Pioneer Museum is an ongoing project that began in 1985 and is privately owned by the Luttrell Family Trust. It covers 5.2468 hectares and contains one of the Manawatu's largest remaining single stands of Kahikatea Forest, regenerating native bush, and wetlands. The Kahikatea or White Pine Tree is the tallest native tree of New Zealand growing to a height of up to 60 metres. The native plant arboretum walk contains over one hundred named varieties. You will also see some of the many introduced and native species of bird and animal life found in the New Zealand wild. The birdsong is delightful.
Luttrells White Pine Gardens and Working Pioneer Museum is dedicated to doing its part to preserve the natural and historical history of New Zealand for the benefit of present and future generations through awareness appreciation and education. In the museum, step back in time and view the many articles used by early New Zealanders in their everyday live - from farm machinery to household items.
