Making the move for work-life balance
Joyce spent nine years studying to become a chiropractor in Auckland, a journey that was both demanding and expensive. But when it came time to decide where to settle professionally and personally, Manawatū emerged as the ideal choice.
“We now own our own business and have the freedom to design our work hours around our children. We could never have done that in the bigger cities,” Joyce explains. The couple even purchased the house next door to build their new clinic, reducing Joyce’s daily commute to just 20 metres. This seamless integration of home and work life means they never have to choose between family time and running a successful clinic.
Building a diverse team
Omega Chiropractic is more than just a family duo. The clinic has a team of three doctors and six additional staff members, having even attracted talent internationally. “One of our doctors relocated from Alaska,” Joyce shares. “She’s been amazed by how welcoming and laid-back everyone is here.”
The opportunities in Manawatū’s healthcare sector
Living and working in Manawatū has also given the couple a front-row seat to the region’s robust healthcare infrastructure. “We have access to world-class facilities and specialist services here,” Joyce explains. These include oncology, chemotherapy, a dedicated ICU, coronary care, radiology, cardiology, and medical imaging, making the region a hub for healthcare professionals and businesses alike.
The region’s zoning rules have also made it easier for healthcare businesses to thrive. “We discovered that healthcare businesses can be set up within residential zones, which was a game-changer for us when starting out,” Ben shares.
Family first lifestyle
Living and working in Manawatū has provided Ben and Joyce with a lifestyle that many families dream of. Ben, who manages the clinic’s accounts, staffing, and hiring, appreciates the flexibility the setup offers.
“I get to be a full-time dad while contributing to our business. Living next door means I can handle the work side of things while spending quality time with our kids,” he says.
Manawatū is the place to be
If you’re thinking about making the move to Manawatū, Ben and Joyce encourage you to explore the opportunities. “This region offers so much,” says Joyce. “For us, it’s been the perfect place to live, raise a family, and run a business. Palmerston North and the greater Manawatū area have everything we need and more.”
A clinic that cares for whānau and community
At Omega Chiropractic, family is at the heart of everything they do — not just within their clinic, but in how they give back to the wider community. Their practice is built on a strong family-oriented approach, ensuring that patients of all ages feel welcomed and supported. Whether treating young athletes, busy parents, or seniors, their goal is to help every individual achieve their best health.
Beyond their clinic, they are passionate about making a difference in Manawatū. They proudly support local sports teams, helping athletes stay strong and injury-free. Additionally, they are honoured to be involved with Christmas Box, an initiative that provides food parcels to families in need during the holiday season. Giving back is a core part of their values, and they love being part of a region that embraces community spirit.
