Te Wananga o Aotearoa is considered one of the largest indigenous people’s colleges in the world, and is particularly committed to revitalising Maori language and cultural knowledge. Te Wananga offers a range of qualifications, including Certificates, Diplomas, Bachelor, Master and Doctoral degrees.
As a tertiary education provider, Te Wananga focuses on ‘whanau transformation through education’, and was established to offer education opportunities to those who have had negative experiences within the education system. To support their students journey, Te Wananaga offers extensive student support, home-based learning and flexible learning hours.
Subjects taught include Te Reo Maori, Maori knowledge, social work, business management, computing, arts, education, and sport and fitness. Te Wananga also offers foundation programmes for building skills for further study, and vocational programmes for specific careers.
The bicultural setting of Te Wananga will have special value for those with Maori heritage and/or an interest in understanding Maori culture better, but all New Zealanders are welcome to study at Te Wananga.
