Bring a bucket and get amongst the colourful rows at Dahlias & Co, a working flower farm near Feilding filled with dahlias, zinnias, cosmos, strawflowers and other seasonal favourites. After a quick cutting demonstration, you’ll have an hour to explore the field and choose 25 delightful stems for a bouquet shaped entirely by your own tastes. The flowers are grown on the dairy farm where the Dahlias & Co team works as contract milkers, thanks to land shared by farm owners Tim and Victoria Gorton. The field can also be booked privately for family portraits, maternity shoots and other special occasions, offering a colourful backdrop without the photo bombers.
Open Season: January - April/May
Cost: $50 per hour/25-stems

In My Garden keeps its pick-your-own sessions small, with just 10 people in the flower field at one time. Begin with practical guidance on selecting and cutting flowers, then you’re free to fill your provided bucket with around 20 to 25 seasonal stems. The limited group size leaves plenty of room to ask questions, compare varieties and learn from generous grower Caroline. Caroline established the farm to champion seasonal flowers beyond the standard florist selection, so expect foliage, texture and a few less-familiar finds alongside colourful favourites. Pick-your-own sessions run through summer only, while a flower farm shop has regular hours September-March.
Open Season: Shop: September - March / PYO: Jan - Feb
Cost: PYO = $65 per session

Electric Blooms offers a different flower-farm experience: no picking required, just fresh bunches ready to go from a self-service shop on the farm. Choose from seasonal market bouquets made with flowers and foliage grown on-site, then stop for a photo beside the dried-flower wall. Owner Cat runs the farm with help from her partner Matt and her parents, following a local, seasonal and regenerative approach to growing. It’s a quick and cheerful Feilding stop when you want farm-fresh flowers but aren't feeling a full pick-your-own session.

Peonies, dahlias and a changing mix of seasonal blooms fill this small community-focused flower farm. The Kōwhai Doors has long given local flower lovers the chance to enjoy flowers close to where they are grown, while also supplying florists with fresh, locally grown stems. The farm is now entering a new chapter under owners Leanne and Jordan, who are taking over from the family that built its much-loved pick-your-own experience. With each season bringing different colours and varieties into flower, no two visits look exactly the same. Check for latest updates from new owners before visiting.

For a short window each summer, Hiwinui Sunflower Field turns 4.5 acres of countryside into a sea of more than 200,000 sunflowers. Follow the paths through the field, pause for photos and cut a few stems to take home, remembering to bring your own secateurs. Youngins can meet the farm’s pet sheep and ponies, making this an easy country outing for the whole family, just 10 minutes from Palmerston North. One dollar from every sunflower picked is donated to Arohanui Hospice. Because flowering dates and opening conditions depend on the weather, it pays to check for updates before setting out. Also keep an eye out for special events held amongst the sunflowers such as yoga sessions, market weekends and more.
Open Season: January - February
Cost: $10 entry (adults) / $3 per stem

Flower Collective Manawatū brings multiple local growers together for a weekly market at Milson Scout Hall, making it easy to explore several flower farms and heaps of variety at a single stop. Each grower sells their own fresh-cut flowers, so the selection reflects what is blooming across Manawatū that week rather than a fixed catalogue. Growers include In My Garden, Shangrila Flora, flowers by sara and maie bloom. The market sells directly to the public as well as florists and floral stylists.
